Ms. Caliano is our firm's lead paralegal and firm administrator. She is also one of the very few non-lawyers in North Carolina who has been trained and certified as a Superior Court Mediator.  We are proud of Jen's motivation and drive and of the service she provides both our clients, and also those parties and counsel who engage her to help mediate their disputes.

Jen's Bio

Ms. Caliano was born and raised in small-town Elizabethtown, North Carolina. She comes from a family of lawyers, and began working in her father’s law firm at a young age. After prioritizing raising her family in the early years of her adulthood, Jen re-entered the workforce and served as administrator of a retirement community for several years. In that role, she was the face of that community in dealing with residents, staff members, and loved ones of their residents.

She returned to her passion for the law in 2017, joining The Anderson Law Firm as a paralegal. Jen has worked at ALF since that time, and has been promoted to lead paralegal and practice administrator. She supports the attorneys at The Anderson Law Firm in trust and estate litigation matters, probate matters, and estate-planning.

Jen is a problem-solver. She brings real-world experience and insights into clients’ matters. While working in a busy law firm handling high-conflict family-related litigation, she has been the primary channel of communication for the firm with clients, opposing counsel, the courts, and unrepresented opposing parties. She has supported lawyers at the firm in countless mediations, and brings her real-life skills and sensibilities to helping craft creative solutions to resolve conflicts.

Jen received her undergraduate degree in professional education from Austin Peay State University in 2010, and her paralegal certificate from Duke University in 2014. She lives in Union County with her husband and two children, and actively practices in martial arts when she is not fighting for ALF’s clients.

“Jen has so many fantastic qualities, but perhaps the one I am most grateful for is her ability to talk to people.

As the frontline at our firm, she handles any number of calls coming in from clients, opposing counsel, and opposing parties — and she handles them with aplomb. A few months into her working with us, I was around the corner and could overhear her speaking with an upset client. She listened, and she met him where he was and helped explain the situation that immediately lowered the temperature. I knew then and there I was never going to let her go.

It is not at all uncommon for new clients to tell me, at our first meeting, that they selected our firm because of Jen’s professionalism, but also her humanity and relatability. Our clients feel “heard” by her, and that is an invaluable asset to our firm.

I am proud of Jen’s hard work and initiative in becoming a Certified Superior Court Mediator, and she will be a fantastic one.”
